Well, we're back from another successful International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Business Conference week! This year we spent 4 days touring down to Raleigh in Nate's Ford Taurus (lovingly nick-named "Dolores The Taurus), stopping to play in NYC, Gladstone NJ, Charlottesville VA and Fountain NC. The week of IBMA was a whirlwind of fun and business; we played 11 showcases throughout the week, attended the business conference panels and jammed until the wee hours almost every night. Needless to say, it was a week of little sleep. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights we ran a late night showcase room in the Marriott, with co-sponsors Boston Bluegrass Union and Lonely Heartstring Band. We performed in the showcase room each night alongside some of our favorite bands including, Special Consensus, Chris Jones and The Night Drivers and The Molly Tuttle Band.
We were incredibly honored to be nominated this year for the IBMA Band Momentum Award, and had a blast walking the red carpet and attending the awards show. One of the best parts of IBMA is getting to see friends we sometimes only see once a year. Catching up with those folks, meeting new friends and jamming were all big parts of our week this year. Another really important component of the week for us was the business conference: we attended as many educational panels as we could to learn about different aspects of the bluegrass music industry and came away very inspired. On Sunday morning, weary and grumpy, we piled into Dolores the Taurus and drove the 14 hours back to Boston, blasting the Del McCoury Band and Dan Tyminski. Can't wait for next year!
